Porcine Genome Sequencing Project
Funded by: USDA CSREES, EC FP6 and others
The pig genome is being sequenced under the auspices of the Swine Genome Sequencing Consortium. A clone-by-clone hierarchical shotgun sequencing strategy is being pursed that exploits the excellent clone-based (BAC contig) physical map of the pig genome. The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is the lead sequencing centre for this international collaborative project. Funding is provided by USDA-CSREES, EC FP6 (SABRE), Institute for Pig Genetics and others. The draft sequence is scheduled for completion in late 2009.
