Strategies for controlling influenza virus infections

Pandemic influenza virus infection is a major threat to global human health. Currently, infections are controlled by vaccination and treatment with antivirals but because of the virus’s ability to mutate its genome, new ways of combating infection and disease are needed. We are using model systems to study the role of macrophages in generation of cytokine storms and investigating novel ways of modulating the immune response to prevent lethal virus infections.
