PhD title: Evaluating the potential of carnivores as sentinels for emerging infectious diseases in the UK. To evaluate as a proof of principle the concept that carnivore and scavenger species have the potential to act as valuable sentinels for new and emerging diseases in the United Kingdom, by detailed investigation of the prevalence of selected known pathogens in prey and carnivore/scavenger species using case-specific field studies in identified sites in Northern England and Scotland, and an evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of the approach for the detection of new and emerging diseases, which will be conducted after the fieldwork has been completed.
