• From 1984-1986 I was an elected member of Faculty Board of the John Curtin School of Medical Research and was also elected by Research Staff to serve on the University Council, the main governing body of the Australian National University.
• I have served as Deputy Director of the Centre for Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Queensland, and acted for the Director in his absence for the period from August 1993-April 1994
• I was Chairman of the Organising Committee for ComBio99, the combined meeting of the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Australia and New Zealand Society for Cell and Developmental Biology and the Australian Society for Plant Physiology on the Gold Coast in September 1999.
• I was the Director of the ARC Special Research Centre for Functional and Applied Genomics from 2000-2007 and Deputy Director of the CRC for Chronic Inflammatory Diseases from 2000-2004.
• I was on the Board of the Centre for Immunology and Cancer Research at Princess Alexandra Hospital from 2002-2007.
