PROJECT UPDATE (as of 25th November 2012)

Literature review: A literature review was conducted of both scientific and lay press articles to do with biobanking and the equine industry.

Online survey: In February 2012, we launched an online survey which was accessible from the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) website. The survey was aimed at the general horse-owning public and we received 108 complete responses. This survey is now closed, but we would like to thank all those who let us know what they thought. To view a summary of the survey results, click here.

Interviews: Between February and May 2012, 20 interviews were conducted with representatives from the equine industry, experts in biobanking and vets. Experts were also consulted on the technical issues raised during the interviews.  We would like to thank all those who gave up there time to contribute to this project.

Reports: In September 2012, a 150 page confidential report was presented to the BEF. This report provides an insight into the opportunities, challenges, and potential benefits associated with the establishement of an equine biobank in the UK. A short, publicly available summary of the findings has also been produced and can be seen here. In addition, the findings of the study were presented in poster format at the European, Middle Eastern and African Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking (ESBB) in November 2012 and this poster can be viewed here.
